VP PowerMaster is on the move picking up some big players for 2013. We’ve grown tremendously in just our first two years of existence in the hobby fuel market and have our sights set on getting even bigger. VP PowerMaster would like to welcome our new addition to the team, 2006 IFMAR Nitro Off-Road World Champion, Mark Pavidis. Mark is one of the most widely known and accredited off-road racers in the R/C racing world. Mark’s name is also synonymous with AKA Products, the championship winning tires and accessory company he co-founded with two other R/C legends, Joel Johnson and Gil Losi Jr. Mark knows a thing or two about R/C and what it takes to win at the highest levels of R/C nitro racing. He chose VP PowerMaster to give him solid performance and incredible fuel economy. We couldn’t be happier to have Mark on the team. In Mark’s first race out on VP PowerMaster he brought home the TQ and win in the 1/8 Buggy Masters class at this year’s 2013 Nitro Challenge race in Arizona and then did it all again at the 2013 Silver State Off-road Challenge in Vegas.

Timmerman wins Pro Buggy at RC Pro Series North

Taylor Timmerman wins Pro Buggy at RC Pro Series North

TLR

This past weekend was rd.2 of the RC Pro Series North Division at Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs Missouri. The weather was very pleasant all weekend with sunny skies and highs in the upper 70′s. Saturday’s qualifying was very competitive with new TQ runs every round in both pro classes. I started with Soft Gridiron II’s in Pro Buggy and Soft Evo Gridirons for Pro Truggy for the majority of qualifying. With the large amounts of rain the track received the week before the race, some of the corners began to flake apart and rut up. My TLR 8ight 3.0 handled the ruts and bumps great. For the last round of qualifying I switched to AKA I-beams in soft compound for buggy to help stabilize the car though the ruts along with a front roll center change. The tires were definitely the right move, as I ended up Tq’ing the last round of Pro Buggy to lock me in at 2nd overall on the grid for the A-main behind Taylor James.

On Sunday morning some of the corners were patched up and fixed for the mains which changed up the tire game for the day. I spent most of the day prepping my cars and talking setups with others. I choose soft Evo Gridirons for the Pro Truggy main and soft Impacts for the Pro Buggy main. I would end up finishing 2nd in the Pro Truggy A-main and winning the Pro Buggy A-main by half a lap over 2nd place Taylor James. Both of my cars were really consistent and fast all weekend. The track was actually pretty abrasive for the grip that we had, so tire wear was a slight issue for some people. The AKA compounds worked great for me with amazing grip and longevity for the 45 minute mains.

I would just like to thank Team Losi Racing, Team Orion, AKA, Spektrum, Nitrotane, and Horizon Hobby for all of their support throughout the years. Special thanks to Mark Pavidis, Kevin Gahan, Joe Pillars, and Sonny Brown for all your help. Your support helps me out so much and is very appreciated. Thank you!

Under the Hood with Tekin powered Ryan Lutz

Under the Hood with Tekin powered Ryan Lutz

Tekin-logo

Known as one of the nicest most approachable guys in RC racing, Ryan Lutz chose Tekin electronics after meeting team manager Randy Pike at a local race. “Lutz had recently defected to California and into my backyard. We began talking and he’d mentioned he was tough on electronics and often ran into issues running the classes. Tekin took it on as a personal challenge and he’s been on the team ever since.” Randy Pike

So when asked what was Ryan’s favorite electric class ride to show off he didn’t hesitate to whip out his Tekin powered Team Durango Dex408 buggy. Let’s take a look at what’s “under the hood” of Lutz’s E buggy.

Ryan chooses to run a Tekin T8 1900kv motor controlled by the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc. Powering up his Tekin system are a pair of Protek 100c 2s packs. Check out that fly white wire!

As if Ryan wasn’t easy enough to spot roaming around the race track at well over 6 1/2 feet tall he runs his well known Blue/Pink paint scheme with AKA white wheels.  If you ever get the chance make sure to stop by and say “hi” to Mr. Lutz.

JConcepts: New Finnisher Agama A8 Evo Body

JConcepts: New Finnisher Agama A8 Evo Body

JConcepts Header

JConcepts has studied the evolution of race tracks, complicated circuits combining more aggressive jumps and extremely high-speed corners, and has incorporated many new features in to the Finnisher Agama A8 Evo, which provide several benefits in the most critical situations. Increased windshield angle provides a steady force upfront during mid-flight wind gusts on large jumps. Forward cab placement changes performance / visible bias which helps steering rotation in low traction corners. A slightly channeled roof-line helps stabilize the vehicle at high-speed. The side-pods have been simplified and JC chamfered to remove unwanted changes in height to neutralize the at-speed handling.

JConcepts hit the ground in Vaasa, Finland with an all new body design specifically for the IFMAR World Championships. Cleverly named, Finnisher, the unique design quickly rose to the top of the field during competition and proved effective on the ground and in the air. Designed with aspects learned from the Punisher line of bodies, the Finnisher provides an even more aggressive look with included details which remain crucial to performance. The Finnisher body for the Agama is a drop fit for the newly released A8 Evo buggy.

The chassis to body fit has been tightened up which eliminates empty voids that contribute to mid-flight directional changes. The rear of the cab has a new step feature which allows the placement of a secondary side window and also a louver which can be trimmed to allow air to escape at the top of the body. Additional throttle linkage clearance has been added so all the important inner movements have the necessary amount of freedom. An elevated, slotted rear body mount area provides great footing for the mounting platform while the front small nose piece slides just between the front shock tower. Enter a new level of performance with the Finnisher by JConcepts.

Tekin dominates the 1st Annual S.D. Challenge

Tekin wins ‘em all at the Inaugural Silver Dollar Off-Road Challenge

Tekin-logo

The Inaugural Silver Dollar Off-road Challenge wrapped up this past weekend. Held at A-Main Hobbies 2nd off-road track Silver Dollar Raceway. The facility has been featured in a few videos as well as the VRC virtual race video game. However after attending this event and seeing the facility first hand the videos while great do not do this track justice.

“For this race the Silver Dollar crew swapped out all of the dirt to squash the previous tracks tire eating nature. The called in one of the best off-road track builders of our time Joey “The Dirt” Christensen to work his magic on the new dirt and come up with a fun layout for the inaugural race. El Dirte’ and crew succeeded providing the racers with a fun, fast, flowing layout that while technical all seemed to make sense driving around the track. The previous dirt was known to consume tires at an alarming rate. The new track surface is nothing like that now. When ran wet or damp the track has very little if any tire wear. When dry the track provides excellent grip with moderate tire wear. Good stuff!”  Randy Pike

Early on in the event in the 4wd SC class would be who could chase down and give Tekin powered Austin Blair’s Tekno a run for it’s money. BMiller Racing’s Josh O’Connell, Lou Figueria and Randy Pike would all give it their all to catch the young driver. The top 4 were all extremely close in qualifying, however Austin would take the overall Tq in the class. Come A main time the wind was going to be a huge factor. Wind gust over 30mph during the main would mean the drivers would all have to choose whether or not to risk the big triples and if they did timing the gust would be critical.

At the tone the carnage would take out Blair and O’Connell right from the get go allowing Pike to take the front and lead the field over the huge step up. Leading into the next few turns Pike would get spun out by another racer and fall back in the pack. This would allow Blair and the rest to get back into the race. For the remainder of the race the racers would spread out and finish up with Blair taking the win, Figueira 2nd, O’Connell 3rd overall. The entire podium was Tekin powered with Austin Blair taking Tq and the win using the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 and Pro 4 HD 4300kv motor in his Tekno SC truck.

The event also hosted an E-Truggy class. Tekin’s own Randy Pike would Tq all 3 round of qualifying  with his Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and T8 2000kv motor powered TLR 8ight 2.0e. The A main was somewhat uneventful as Pike walked away from the field lapping everyone around the 9 minute mark. A few wheelies and huge jumps to show off the power of the Tekin electronics filled the remainder of the 10 minute A main.

The last electric A main was the E Buggy class. This class was up for grabs during the A-main. Tq was Tekin powered Curtis Door with his Tekin Rx8 Gen2 T8 powered Tekno buggy. Tekin teammate Autin Blair sitting 2nd followed by Richard “The King” Saxton in 3rd. From the tone the 15 buggy group would blast around the track. The wind becoming a factor again in this race would force the drivers to exercise car control skills to keep all 4 wheels facing the right direction. Door would experience a steering issue forcing him to retire while in the lead. Blair would take over and finish up the main in the top position followed by Saxton 2nd, and Figueira 3rd.  Austin chose the Tekin Rx8 Gen2 esc and T8 2050 to power his winning Tekno buggy ride.
